It's taking about four years for quotes to work their way through my random quote file these days. It's sometimes astonishing to me how much my attitude towards a quote can change from the time it goes in and the time it comes back out again.

Did you ever see the movie Sullivan's Travels? Wonderful movie. Sometimes when times are really, really shitty what we need is not self-absorbed, narcissistic, bitter, ironic humor. Sometimes what we need is a simple belly laugh. It doesn't mean we're not thoughtful at other times, it doesn't mean that we shouldn't engage in the other type of humor, that there is no place for it. It just means that sometimes we need to keep it simple. That's how we cleanse our souls. Sullivan's Travels was all about cutting through the noise and pretense and getting back to that simplicity. It's a forgotten treasure.

I don't get older people who won't listen to the advice of younger people. Getting older is absolutely no guarantee of getting wiser. I routinely take counsel from younger people because often they ARE wise. The message is the important thing, not the age of the messenger.
Not to undercut that statement, I will add that there is plenty of silliness in all generations, so one does have to be selective on the advice front, but yanno.

I'm tired of being a geezer. It beats the alternative but "better than dead" ain't saying much.
This is my path and I have to walk it, even if I'm staggering most of the time.

After all these years, all that therapy, all that life experience, I still can't get past the voice inside
