A message from a younger me

This was transcribed into the notebooks August 25, 1999, but it's actually a much older poem. I'm not exactly sure when I wrote it.

DOLPHIN

Into the legless abyss, breathless,
and shattering through blue surfaces,
winnowing through deeps, singing
a bursting of song, sleek fish mind
to mind, and joy measureless as the deep
pouring through my heart, all hearts
of my kind, mind-to-mind.
This perfect, posing, passionate form;
this silver arc, made to play
at life in all seriousness:
this lover of humankind, although
man has not been kind to mine;
this is the sea and me,
running through the deeps of dreams,
playing through the sea of the mind;
this is what I am, the soul of the water space,
always in transition until passed
from form to formlessness;
this is the sea and me,
this is what I am,
the mammalian soul of the sea.

I love "legless abyss" and "joy measureless as the deep"

In other ways, it feels like a younger poem than some of your others, but I wonder if I'm influenced by your saying so... I wonder if I would have thought that if you hadn't said....
