I don't think first drafts are ever especially good. If the bones are there of a good novel, the fact that this isn't that novel doesn't mean it won't ever be. If that makes sense.
I stick with a story for the sake of the characters, who I feel like deserve to have their story told. But I think it's quite common to hate your own work partway?
