I am so, so sorry. What horrible news. I remember the outbreak among cows in the UK and the people who were subsequently infected, but I can see that it otherwise mostly is genetic or occurs spontaneously. Your friend sounds like she was, and still is, a wonderful person, even though she's already a shadow of herself. *hugs*
