Ruthlessly good
Jun. 7th, 2007 04:02 pmRandom quote of the day:
"Real Good can be as ruthless as Evil when it wants to accomplish something."
—Kage Baker, The Anvil of the World
I loved this book. It's an imaginative, fully-grained fantasy world with great characters and juicy conflicts. I wish she'd write another novel set in this world. I hope she will once she's finished with the Company novels.
Anvil is another of her walks in sunshine and shadows, but overall much sunnier than the Company books. One of the things I love about Kage Baker is that she can have you laughing on one page and sniffling on the next. And she knows human nature down to our corrupt toes: her heroes and heroines have dark failings, her villains have unexpected grace notes, and all of them walk on two feet and cast long shadows.
