I've been scattered this month—so what else is new? I've read widely, but haven't finished a lot of books. I can be enjoying the heck out of a book, then all of a sudden I need a break from it. Who knows why? I suppose it often depends on how tired I am, and if I crave junk over quality. The Monster of Florence was like this, as was A Brief History of the Dead from last month, great books that I was completely enjoying. Then, poof! I'll drop them and pick up something I started the week before, the month before, the year before and read that for awhile—or something completely new. Fickle, I am!

And if you compare the stats for the number of books I finished this month (3) and the number of books I purchased this month (11) you'll see the inherent ridiculousness of my position. I cannot possibly keep up with my book buying mania. There's just so much out there that sounds interesting. I can't help myself. Still, I've got enough books to last me seven or eight years, even if I never bought another book. I wind up having to cull them periodically and give them away. It's a sickness that benefits many a library, old folks' home, and youth center—at least there's that.

I will say, however, in my own defense that I've been on a particularly manic acquisition phase the last two months. I really don't usually buy this many books in such a short period of time. ::sigh::

You will also note in the list of books purchased that once again I did not make it to an independent bookseller. I dreamed about an independent bookseller last night, however. In the dream I was so desperate for space to shelve my books that after the store was closed for the night I set up a bookshelf on their back porch and filled it with my overflow, along with some knickknacks I have yet to unpack from my boxes in the garage. When I returned the next day (the next week?) a little bird had made a nest in my gravy boat shaped like a swan. (I do not really own such an item, although I would not be averse to the idea.)

Finished this month. )
