I'm currently reading a book in which an Immortal Warrior, for thousands of years one of the most powerful and formidable warriors on the planet, has just expressed his frustration by yelling, "Argh!"

Argh? Are you kidding me? It wasn't done in a facetious way, either. It was a serious expression of his angst.

And yet I am still reading.

I require a certain amount of fictional relaxation in order to not lose my tenuous grip on sanity. Sometimes it's late at night before I can get to it, and that usually means I need stuff that doesn't require me to think too much. Especially if I'm struggling to write/revise my own stuff, I don't seem able to read anything serious. But this one may be too stupid.

And yet I am still reading.

A kind of compulsion, like maybe it will suddenly become one of the well-written pieces of genre I enjoy. But it pretty much keeps on in the same stupidz fashion.

Still reading.

Argh! Stupidz brain stupid stupid.

I think even the oldest, most skilled of warriors might once in a while give an 'argh'. Though, the circumstances that would bring upon such should be extreme, and likely inane at the same time. :D

Well, I know sometimes I yell Argh, just when I'm feeling as ironic as I am frustrated. Maybe that was what was up with that character.

But it seems that the feet of clay of certain modern writers have been showing quite frequently of late in terms of character voice and word choice, no?

Well, either the writer could possibly need to work on his character or else, there just no that much personal development, even after thousands of years. :p

Yes to the comments about editing and the general sloppiness because, heck, who cares anyhow, right? Wrong! There are those who care, and we will give up, too, when we've had enough. It won't be surrender of our standards, though, but a relinquishment of the substandard books.

And I am still reading. I won't, however, read any more by this author, so short term gain, long term loss

I feel you on this. I'm in the middle (er, rather the middle of the first book) of a trilogy, and even though it doesn't much interest me, I will read the other two. Only because they are being loaned to me. I didn't put money down for them or go through the hassle of going to the library for them.

I did enjoy getting to use that. :-)

Yeah, if I were in a place where I could more readily get ahold of books, I wouldn't read them either. I saw the book-owner at a cookout yesty, and he told me that he hasn't read the books because the author didn't snag him with the related preceding trilogy (the one where I went on about the A names). :P I do think this one is better than the other, though, so that's why I'm still reading. However, if it gets worse, I'm stopping. With the move coming up, I have other things to occupy me.
