Ah, that feels better

pjthompsonWritingness of the day: I've been stuck since about mid last week. Chapter 8 started off gangbusters, but midway through it the circus animals definitely went AWOL. I came to the conclusion yesterday that I'd probably have to scrap the whole thing, virtually all the writing I did on my break, and start again. But I made myself take some time at the beginning of my writing session today and think about what I'd written, what needed to be there, what could go, what had gone wrong and where. I realized that I could keep much of it, that I'd gone wrong in a prevented action. What I needed was to allow that thingamajig to happen. And immediately, all my energy was back and the writing went really well.
So ::sigh.:: I'm a happy little Petunia now.
Shopping news of the day: I was just about to purchase my Alphasmart Neo when I got distracted by a fancier model, the Alphasmart Dana, which PC magazine gives a much better review. It comes with Palm OS software, is more versatile, I wouldn't have to do as much formatting, and according to them has become "a cult hit with newspaper reporters." Ah, the glamour. ;-) But, see, this whole quest started off as a way to get something dirt cheap that I could pay for out of savings rather than credit cards, a stripped down text machine that would be dedicated to writing on lunch hours and the like, that would still interface with my Mac. The Neo is $250 plus s&h, the Dana is $400 plus s&h. Kind of defeats the purpose, might as well start looking at cheap-end PC laptops (though the interface might get irritating). I foresee more dithering in my future, but I'll probably wind up doing the right thing.
