Marathoning
Mar. 31st, 2006 09:42 amQuote of the day:
"When writers die, they become books, which is, after all, not too bad an incarnation."
—Jorge Luis Borges
Well, not all of them.
Writing talk of the day:
Night Warrior/Born to Darkness limps towards the finish line.
At this point, it's rather like a runner in a marathon who wasn't in bad shape, but maybe not in good enough shape for 26.4 miles. Even the people in wheelchairs have long-since passed NW by, the old people and people with artificial limbs, and instead of running it in 3 hours, NW is at the six hour mark. Only the most die hard supporters are still on the sidelines cheering the stragglers on: "You can do it, you can do it!" But it still means a lot, still keeps those legs a-pumpin' past the doubts and the stumbles—not much more than shuffling walk at this point—but NW can smell the Gatorade and Ben Gay waiting just ahead. Determination shoves the doubts aside. "I will finish, at least I will finish. It won't be pretty, but at least I will finish."
I finished chapter 38 on Wednesday, but I'm still not predicting how many chapters until I finish-finish, as in being done. I've been laughably wrong too many times.
