Heard in an interview on NPR.

A voter was asked what was the most important issue for him in this election. "Moral values." When asked to define what he meant by moral values, he replied:

"If people choose to be homesexuals, that's their problem. But they shouldn't try to shove it down the rest of our throats."


Hmm.

That is freaking hilarious! How did the reporter keep from laughing in the person's face?

There wasn't any reaction on the tape, so maybe the reporter did get a case of giggles--who knows? And since it was radio, I can't say what expression was on the reporter's face, either. I know I certainly found it amusing--all except the part about "choosing" to be homosexual, that is.

I see the *choosing* comment as the perfect phrasing... it lets us know just how out of tune that person is. Shows that he probably didn't realize how wrong his throat wording was, and that make sit even funnier :-)

I like what Jon Stewart said (paraphrasing): "We here in New York live closer to terrorism than anyone else in the country, and there are an awful lot of gay people here, but we voted overwhelmingly for Kerry. I guess the people in the Midwest and the South who aren't as close to terrorism and gays feel that because they have distance, they're more objective than we are, better able to judge these things rationally." :-) He also said something to the effect of: "The War in Iraq, no WMD, no jobs--I guess it was all trumped by two guys kissing."

The second quote is actually my favorite of his from this week.

I just got bcak form a family dinner where Stewart was quoted mor eoften than any of the guys who actually call themselves journalists. I'm not sure if that's a good thing, but it works for us.
