Synchronicity of the day: I was reading "Paperjack" by Charles De Lint last night and one of the characters (Jilly) said something that I thought [livejournal.com profile] merebrillante, at least, might find synchronous:

"Everybody makes the same mistake. Fortune-telling doesn't reveal the future; it mirrors the present. It resonates against what your subconscious already knows and hauls it up out of the darkness so that you can get a good look at it."

Reminiscent of Arthur Koestler's introduction to "The Age of Longing" where he explains that it isn't really about 1955 (not sure about precise date) but what things would be like of 1950 went on being 1950 for another 5 years.

"It resonates against what your subconscious already knows and hauls it up out of the darkness so that you can get a good look at it."

And so few people (self included) want to look at it.

By a curious coincidence, I braved the deeps of my basement this morning. My basement is a place I fear most grievously, but last night it sounded like my drains were backing up. Fortunately, they are not. Yet.

I don't like going down into my basement or my subconscious, but sometimes a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.
