Bookish me
Apr. 19th, 2006 09:41 amRecently purchased books:
1. Gilgamesh: A New English Translation by Stephen Mitchell (paperback)
2. His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik
3. Warsworn by Elizabeth Vaughn.
4. New Chakra Healing by Cyndi Dale.
And I can't believe I'm eagerly awaiting the latest Charles De Lint novel, Widdershins, (coming out May 16) but I recently finished The Onion Girl, which I liked a great deal, and this appears to be something of a continuation of that story. I also read Forest of the Heart earlier this year. I liked that one even better, that combination of Southwest mythology with Celtic. It reminded me of reading Carlos Casteneda's novels (although he didn't call them novels).
Also in the news: I am finally reading Kushiel's Avatar by Jacqueline Carey. It's been on my TBR shelf for ages. I liked the previous two books a great deal, but needed a break from them before starting Avatar. Now I see she's got a new one, Kushiel's Scion.
1. Gilgamesh: A New English Translation by Stephen Mitchell (paperback)
(I'm sort of a Gilgameshphile--I have three or four translations. I haven't read Mitchell yet, but my favorite so far is Gilgamesh: A Verse Narrative by Herbert Mason. Heartfelt and beautiful.)
2. His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik
Sure hope it's as good as everyone says.
3. Warsworn by Elizabeth Vaughn.
Loved the first book in the series, Warprize. I hear good things about this one, too.
4. New Chakra Healing by Cyndi Dale.
Hey! Stop that snickering!

(Anything over three is usually too much for me. I still haven't managed to finish Maggie Fury's Dhiammara despite how much I enjoyed the rest of the series.)
I think I'm going to have to look up that pair of books by Elizabeth Vaugh, too. They look really interesting.

Warprize was a ton o' fun--one of those books you think might be geeky, and turns out to be a delightful surprise. At least for me!
Geeking out over books,
It's a way of life for me. :-)
