Shades of meaning
Jun. 15th, 2007 10:42 amRandom quote of the day:

This one is widely quoted, and there seem to be many shades of meaning in the different translations. I'll let you decide which you like. As I don't speak Latin, I can't say which is mos accurate. Here are some others (there are others besides these):
"Wise men are instructed by reason; men of less understanding, by experience; the most ignorant, by necessity; the beasts, by nature."
"The wise are instructed by reason; men of lesser understanding by observation; fools by mistakes; and beasts by nature."
"The wise are instructed by reason, average minds by experience, the stupid by necessity, and the brute by instinct."
