Random quote of the day:

“We are all apprentices in a craft where no one ever becomes a master.”

—Ernest Hemingway, New York Journal-American, 11 July 1961

Hemingway... I used to read him a lot when I was young. Nice words. I would add, there is only one Master - The God. I wonder, in what context was said that phrase?

Good to hear from you.

Yes, only one Master. :-)

I've never been a big fan of Hemingway, but he does say some pithy things on the process of writing. I know he had big insecurities all his life about his writing, which may explain his suicide.

How are you doing these days?

Each suicide is always a riddle..
I guess many people are or were at least once quite close to suicide.
Me too.

We have winter now, with much snow and -19 Celsius. In spite of severe weather, there is permanent war with Russians in the East.

Due or thanks to the weather and flu epidemy, the university where I work set the vacation longer - till Feb. 15. Joy for students and more rest for us teachers. I benefit even more from extended holidays as I got more time to restore my condition after an operation I had in November. Anyway, there is enough of work to do. But I can do it at home. :)

What are the news at your side? Hopefully, the new year started good for you?

In this case, his choice was burning to death or flying free.

I'm glad you had an extended period off. I'm sure the stress of work added to the stress of the situation in the East must be overwhelmingly exhausting.

My year started out shaky. January 22 was the first year anniversary of my mother's death and last week was kind of rough. I did manage to work through a lot of subterranean stuff, though. Things I'd perhaps put off during the year. And so, maybe, I'll be stronger from this point on.

I am so sorry about your sad anniversary...
I wish you this year be less of sadness and more of health and joy.
