Just when I needed it most
Sep. 9th, 2007 05:56 pmThree posts on editing drafts, all gotten from Justine Larbalestier:
There's Justine's post, with a promise of a bigger one to come.
Then there's one from David Louis Edelman over at Deep Genre.
And finally, there's one from Maureen Johnson.
Must get rid of weasely words! "Just" is the bane of my existence! One of many banes!
I can't promise that I'll weed all the clutter out of the 1.5 draft—that's mostly for making things consistent because I changed my mind a few times during the writing. But I am trying to make nice with this draft as well.
Fat language—fat, fat language. I've managed to cut an average of one page per chapter. Some of that is getting rid of stuff that's been overtaken by events, but a significant part of it is just this sort of kind of fat language, actually.
Onward!
