Random quote of the day:

"Only kings, presidents, editors, and people with tapeworms have the right to use the editorial 'we.' ”

—attributed to Mark Twain

I couldn't verify that Twain said this, but it was too good not to use. I've also seen this less common variant: "There are three categories of those entitled to use 'We' in the first person: Royalty, Editors, and People With Tapeworms." I couldn't verify that one, either.

I fully expected the Proposition 8/gay marriage decision would come down the way it did, but I'm still terribly disappointed and ashamed of my state. At least they let the 18,000 marriages that already happened stand, but that still crushes the rights of millions of others. It's wrong and wrong-headed and completely illogical. Basic human decency demands a change.

Gay marriage does not take away the rights of men and a women to marry each other.

Gay marriage does not force anyone to marry the same sex.

Gay marriage does not impose upon the sanctity of religious marriages. Your ceremonies remain the same even regardless of the civil ceremonies. Besides, the way most heterosexuals practice "the sanctity of marriage" has turned the phrase into something of an ironical statement.

The fight continues.
