Random quote of the day:

“Admitting mistakes is a fundamental skill too few of us learn. In part, this is because we’ve been taught it’s wrong to be wrong.”

I struggle with this; I struggle hard. My validation as a kid was being smart and being right. I am trying to get a handle on my narrative so as not to pass along the need to Always Be Right to my children. One area I am trying to improve in is how I talk about my art "failures" in front of them. From the feedback I am getting, I pretty much suck at it. ROFL

I laugh, but really, it is so important to speak in a considered way about WHY something did not work, WHY it doesn't satisfy us, HOW we can tackle the challenge the next time, rather than "I failed!"

Let's follow your advice!

I am doing a lot of reminding myself about play and learning these days, and it helps that I HAVE learned things, things that would not have been graspable without the application of my paints to my paper (rather than, say, watching a YouTube tutorial on how to something and expecting the same results will magically appear with my own application of my own materials). Oftentimes, what I make has no aesthetic value, but i just remind myself it is a step toward creating something that does.

I am getting over the hurdle with the visual side and now need a kick in the pants about the written one. :P
