Inspired by the aptly named [livejournal.com profile] geniusofevil, I am going to post pictures of our recently repainted kitchen. I didn't have a lot of before shots to compare with the after shots, but there are a couple. We repainted the dark wood cabinets because we were sick of them as well as the pale yellow walls (yuck). Now, of course, the counters and floor and old back splash look tawdry in comparison, but all things in their time. Once you start doing upgrades, it's endless. We're going to put fake slate on the floor...sometime. Although this vacation would have been an ideal time, I was just too exhausted.

Here's what the old cabinets looked like.

New cabinets and paint. The bird still looks the same.

Old corner near laundry, with adorable kitty getting loaded with catnip.

The updated version. The kitty is still adorable and frequently loaded.

New curtains!

And here's the side of the kitchen facing towards the front hall and the door to my section of the house. Notice the track lighting? We hates them we do with a frothing hateness (80s remodel) but those are going to cost a bundle to change so we've decided we have to live with them.

Lovely - so much more light in the room because of the color!

Oh, and happy New Year!

I've never tried frothing hateness--any good?

Holy cow!

What a difference. It looks terrific! (but I don't believe you that the starling looks the same. I want proof!)

The curtains, the cat, the paint -- super cute! Nice job.

Typically, I'm all about dark cabinetry (with the major exception of that really dark faux walnut that was so popular in the '70s and went so incredibly well with all the harvest gold that was still around), but in your case, the white cabinets with the bright paint was waaaay smart. It looks wonderful. I love it!

Can't wait to see what it looks like with the new floor. Be sure to post pics!

It looks great! Light and cheery...and mysteriously the same colors as MY kitchen. ;)

I did the same thing to my kitchen cabinets in the haunted money pit. White cabinets are just so cheerier!

Good job!
