Random quote of the day:

"It is, in fact, nothing short of a miracle that the modern methods of instruction have not yet entirely strangled the holy curiosity of inquiry; for this delicate little plant, aside from stimulation, stands mainly in need of freedom. Without this it goes to wrack and ruin without fail."

—Albert Einstein, quoted in "Holy Curiosity," Time, March 21, 1949, from his "upcoming" biography

You may have seen a widely quoted version of this attributed to Einstein which goes something like this: "It is a miracle that curiosity survives a formal education." As far as I can tell, this is someone's "improved" version. It makes a better sound bite, I guess, but there's more poetry in Einstein's own verison.
