I saw the same documentary on this library buried by the famous eruption of Vesuvius as this guy did and I've been wondering what's going on with these ancient scrolls ever since.

The possibility of retrieving an entire ancient library, or even a part of one, is fascinating and exciting. They've made some progress with light scans (the documentary), but this process involving MRI promises good things.

Oh, man. What I wouldn't give to be able to read those (or at least for someone else to be able to read them and translate them into some good ol' English for my uneducated butt)! What an amazing source to really understand the ancient Romans.

Kristine and I dedicated much of our education this past year to Egypt. This coming year is Greece and Rome. I am very excited.

Now there's something to wait for on LibraryThing. See which works you have in common.
