Here's an amazing photographic exhibit of live model-posed reproductions of Greek friezes.

Caution: The bottom of the page has an exhibit of contorted body photographs that has naked butts n' stuff.

It also falls into the category of fascinating but disturbing. A little. For me.

Neato! I wonder if they were taken from above, with the models laying down; the hair seemed to be posed quite precisely.

Gorgoues--it looks like he poses them lying down, and shooting from overhead.

Oddly enough, that one butt-shot was more than enough for me.

Cool photos. Thanks for the link.

I was noticing, among other things, the shoes the women were wearing. Since I haven't looked closely at many Greek friezes, I'm left wondering how accurate they are. If so, the torture device known as the high heel seems to have been around for a lot longer than I'd ever imagined.

Thanks. I'd only known about the sandals, but as it's not an area I've studied to any great extent, I couldn't be sure I hadn't missed something.

I think, in that regard, I'd have preferred the artist either stuck to the reproduction, or went to a completely contemporary interpretation. As it is, the shoes stick out, because everything else (so far as my limited knowledge allows me to judge) seems to be an exacting replica. So, seeing the shoes is a bit like picking up a historical novel where everything is exactly correct, except the gowns are described as having colors like fuchsia or electric blue, or seeing a historical movie in which an English lord has a Bronx accent.
