So, yesterday, my son was wearing this ridiculous Hawaiian shirt his dad put on him for a party we went to. We took it off at one point because he'd covered it in Watermelon juice. So I was looking for it going, "Where's his Magnum PI shirt!?" And my in-law declares, "You know what? You have such colorful speech. You're always talking in metaphors." And I was like, "Magnum PI is a metaphor?" And she says, "Yeah! It was so vivid an image for me. Are you a good writer?"

This really made me laugh. I had never thought my speech "colorful", and I'd definitely never thought that referring to my son's shirt as his Magnum PI shirt would be a wonderful metaphor. ;)

Yeah, I guess that invoking Magnum PI is more of an allusion than a metaphor...

Her autobiography, which that came from, is well worth reading, even for those who, like me, don't much enjoy watching dance.
