This strange thing called fun

Today's writing session was actually fun! After weeks of slogging along, looking for any excuse not to write, and low word count, I really appreciated it, I can tell you. I keep thinking the story is about to break wide open and roll downhill to the end, but I've thought that before. So I'll just content myself with saying this time that I had fun and hope to have more fun tomorrow.

And I wonder if I actually am going to bring this novel in at around 100k? Wow, wouldn't that be a big surprise.

What do you think your daily or weekly word count is? I'm asking this out of both admiration and writerly envy over 77,250 words....

Lately, it hasn't been very good. I did only 2.5k last week. On an average week when things are going good, about 4k to 4.5k. Roughly, 750 a day, 5 or 6 days a week. When things are really hot (usually at the beginning and maybe very end of a project), I can pull down about 5-6k, but I never sustain that over the long haul. I think 750 a day is a respectable amount of words. And if you don't believe me, Elizabeth Bear says so, too. :-) I think 500 a day is a respectable amount of words, too, or 250 a day. It's the "a day" thing that counts, finding your own rhythm within your daily count, that's the important thing, I think. At least, a lot of writers have told me so. :-)

Sweet! And 100k would be impressive, just because of how uncertain you were before.
