A friend of a friend who is a cabinetmaker has made built-in bookshelves for my bedroom and will be installing them on Monday. These will give me more space, plus they have the advantage of not falling down and crushing my skull in an earthquake. (I tried finding the wall studs but never could, so I haven't been able to tether my shelves to the wall.) So today, I unloaded the bookshelves that have been occupying that space for the last three and a half years: about half of the books I own.

Here are the two shelves, plus my antique chest of drawers and my earring collection. (My excuse re: the 'rings is that I used to make 'em so I have lots.) The dresser and earring holder are staying, with built in cabinets over the top.

This bookshelf, about 6'x6', will be staying but moving to another room.

Another shot of the dresser--because why the hell not? It's circa 1910 and I adore it and I inherited from my landlady who survived the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco. Plus, it comes complete with a cat toy hanging from the bottom handle.

This, alas, is a bookshelf which will be headed out to the curb tomorrow so the trash scavengers can collect it. (They beat the official trash collectors by at least a day.) I hate doing it because although it's old, it's still solid and holds a ton of books, but there's no place for it. Between the roommate's shelves and mine there isn't another inch of wall space left. Hopefully, someone will put it to good use.

This is what was unloaded from those shelves. These pictures don't do justice to how huge these boxes really are.

Plus this and assorted gaylord boxes from the tops of the shelves.

We also unloaded this cheapy-crappy Staples bookshelf. I was too tired to dust by this point. But that's okay. It's going out to the curb, too. The nice bookshelf with the scallops around it will be moved here.

This is what came out of that shelf.

Plus this.

On the agenda for tomorrow: moving two bookshelves out of the house, moving a breakfront, moving another shelf where the breakfront was, and moving the dresser to the foot of my bed until the built-ins are put into place on Monday. Also, vacuuming.

I'm tired just thinking about it.
