Carvaggio's paintings. I got to see an exhibit up at the Getty a little while back and fell in love with his work.

He's pretty astounding. The way he uses light is nearly photorealistic. Like Vermeer--only Vermeer was a painter of daylight, it seems to me, while Caravaggio was a painter of candlelight and torchlight.

Exactly. I have a small print of one of my favorite Carvaggio's... the scene of Jesus and the woman about to be stoned. Beautiful painting...
