The Lost Gardens of Heligan

This immense estate has beautiful gardens in a large variety of environments, as well as being an important wildlife sanctuary. The gardens became "lost" when the owners ceased to take interest and everything became an overgrown jungle. Now in public trust, the gardens have been lovingly restored and provide a nice day of enjoying the flora and fauna. Some of these environments are like stepping into another world. We took a ton of pictures that day. I've culled some, but there are still 25 in the latest upload. Click on either picture to get there.

I know. I was quite captivated by the earth sculptures. Makes me wish I had enough land to make one. That and my own pet labyrinth. :-)

My mum lives in walking distance of Heligan; I go whenever I'm down there. It's still special.

It really is special. I don't think I've been to a place quite like it. Huntington Library and Gardens here in Pasadena comes closest, I guess, but I never get the same sense there of having stepped into another world as I did on some of those woodland paths. And they've got nothing there to do with wildlife.
