I got one of these last night

I probably wouldn't have chosen this time to buy one, but I've been longing to upgrade for some time now. And it is beautiful, and I am glad. I can't stand those nasty little keyboards, though, so I bought an extended one. It's still a nasty little keyboard, just a longer nasty little keyboard. I may have to hook my old one up to the new machine. Such is life.

I bought the one with the number pad, but I still don't like it that much. Seems like my fingers are too big for it. But it would be nice if I could make it work. I got used to the small laptop keyboard, I guess I could get used to this if I gave it a try.

I know what you mean. It's a switch. I actually *really* like laptop keyboards, though, so this was perfect for me.

oh, sweet. Now you are in business again. BTW, is that keyboard as small as it looks? How does a person touch type on that? Unless that is one huge monitor/computer? I can only count five rows of keys from top to bottom. And I don't see a number pad. Just curious, as I have never used a mac.

Yes it is that small! It's one of Steve Jobs's bright ideas that wasn't very bright. Either that or it was designed for a child's fingers. I had to buy an "extended" keyboard in order to get the number pad, but the keyboard is still kind of flat and obnoxious. I love everything about Macs, but not those damned newfangled keyboards.

She is being rather snooty about the whole thing. I had a cumbersome old desk that took up too much room, so while the computer was gone the roommate and I took it apart and put up a new $99 desk that I got at Target a couple of months ago when it went on sale. It's been in the garage waiting for me to clean the old one off, but I kept dragging my heels because of all the disconnecting and stuff. Min, however, really liked that old desk. It had solid sides she could hide behind and the new one is rather open. She's sniffed around in disdain but is not sure she likes it at all. She hasn't even got up on it yet to check out the new 'puter. She may break down this weekend when I'm working on it. Hard to resist helpin' out the ol' human.

I've been using an earlier version of it at work for several months and I love it. I'm using the new home machine as I type this. i really don't like the new keyboard, though. I switched back to the old clunker one at work and I think I'm going to do the same here at home. It just feels wrong. But otherwise I really love my Mac.

We're probably going to buy a netbook for our trip around the world. They are tiny (10 inch screens). I'm not sure how much writing I'll do on it, but if I can get used to that maybe the other keyboard won't bother me so much. :P

I don't know if you got my email about Dreamwidth, but I think I finally got the other invite to work. I'm using "wayfaringwordhack" as a handle over there. What's yours? I'm going to poke around a bit and try to get it set up (maybe not all today), but I'll likely use it like you: as a back-up.
