Apologies

It wasn't a good idea trying to post a puckish Monday Poll on the anniversary of 9/11, I guess. My sincere apologies if I offended anyone. It wasn't just a case of massive insensitivity. I thought some people might like a refuge from the heaviness. I know I do. But I'm not disrespectful of the tragedy--I've just inundated myself with it for the last few weeks, felt what I felt before, plus a lot of new anger. I have no words left for any of it, and for the tragedies that have resulted from 9/11 around the world.

But I was wrong. And I am sorry.

ETA: Some have been offended, some have not and so I've reopened the stupid poll and leave it up to anyone reading this to decide which it is...My apology still stands to those who felt offense.

I was not offended, and for me 9/11 lasted for a long time. Not as long as it did for New Yorkers and those whose relatives had died, but for a good while.

We were on base in lock down. For weeks. We could not leave the base and even when we were able to, we had to be searched and go through bomb check every time we returned. It just hammered it home: No Longer Safe.

All in all I would rather do something nice for somebody on this day - as I have done this morning - then spend it wallowing in hate. So on with the poll.

Did I mention the fact that my kid had to attend first grade while armed Marines stood guard by the school doors? And they weren't shy about puling you out of the car if they thought you din't belong there :)

 It will okay. Honest :)

I remember I smoked a cigarette. I'm very scared of lung cancer, as cancer seems to have struck in my family a few times. I haven't had one since. I sat on the porch with Gordon and we both smoked one. :shudder:

But imho, it's best to make it "do something selfless" day than "let's tiptoe around it" day. I'll kiss my kids today when they come home and will be very glad we are all together.

...I'm not sure how a poll on an entirely different topic is irreverent and/or offensive somehow, since it had nothing to do with terrorism. Bad things happen every day, and most of us don't suspend our sense of humour or the rest of our lives the other 364 days of the year.

...really, I'm mostly surprised that someone expressed offense. It's like saying my cat died today, so nobody better talk about cheesy puffs in a cheerful tone of voice. Just...what?

To paraphrase the shrub, if you cancel the poll, the terrorists win.

I don't see what is wrong with a usual Monday morning poll. Does one also not go get a coffee from Tim Hortons because of the day? Are terrorists still disrupting our lives?

My life was disrupted because of what happened and I would rather take a few minutes to think on those who didn't survive and then try to continue my life as normal.

Okay, I'm over being chagrined. The poll is on. :-)
