Verifying the truth
Aug. 17th, 2009 09:20 amRandom quote of the day:
"At his best, Roger Bacon was almost prophetic: Experimental Science controls the conclusions of all other sciences. It reveals truths which reasoning from general principles would never have discovered."
—Warren C. Hollister, Medieval Europe: A Short History
This has been widely quoted as a direct quote of Bacon himself, chiefly because (I suspect) numerous web authors copied the error from this Wikipedia article on alchemy in history. It appears verbatim in several places on the net. I make no claim to know who plagiarized whom. It's a very interesting article, a good starting point on the subject, but I'd caution you to verify whatever facts you glean from it.

Disclaimer: The views expressed in this random quote of the day do not necessarily reflect the views of the poster, her immediate family, Siegfried and Roy, Leonard Maltin, or the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. They do, however, sometimes reflect the views of the Cottingley Fairies.
