The state of the holiday weekend

pjthompsonAnd so I arrive at day three not having done most of the things I thought of doing this weekend. S'okay. Holidays are for hanging out and resting, too.
Yesterday I managed to write 1500 words of chapter 14. I got a good hook on how to make it work and it practically wrote itself.
Actually, the sequence of events went something like this. I arrived at Thursday, my last day of work for the week, having struggled over the last couple of chapters. I didn't think I could stomach another such struggle. So I gave myself official permission to start work on the rewrite of The Making Blood, which has been haunting me for weeks now. I thought I'd give the weekends to the rewrite while I make forward progress on the current WIP. I worked on the rewrite on Thursday.
Of course, given the perverse nature of my subconscious, as soon as I had officially let the rewrite out of the bag, something in a helpful review I received Friday set off that inspiration bomb on Venus in Transit. It was there, teeming in my head, pouring out of my backbrain. I went to sleep dreaming up scenarios. I didn't immediately remember them upon waking Saturday (always dangerous to dream up new stuff as falling asleep for that reason), but as soon as I did, it all came back to me. I couldn't wait to get it into the Neo!
That beautiful excitement when everything is coming together can't be beat. It's one of the main reasons I write, that high that comes with flow. And now the novel feels together in a way that wasn't happening here in the saggy middle. I'm inspired all over again and now so much pushing forward as skipping forward. Tra la tra la!
