I originally typed that WIMP meme, which could be appropriate too, I guess.

Here's a meme I got from jmeadows.


Turn to page 123 in your work-in-progress. (If you haven't gotten to page 123 yet, then turn to page 23. If you haven't gotten there yet, then get busy and write page 23.) Count down four sentences and then instead of just the fifth sentence, give us the whole paragraph.


p. 123 was the end of a chapter and less than four lines long so I went to p. 124 and did this:

Adding to the misery, not all the new ekimmu stayed in the spirit baffles to which Orpheus had released them. A few stragglers returned to the place where they had died, screaming in the faces of the living, slapping, scratching, biting, until Orpheus had to bind them into spirit bottles. No one liked to see that, as it only added to the torment of the poor things, but until he could calm them, it was the only way to protect the living.

I have my 123 on Ilona's post about the same. Sue is on that one, too. It is interesting that everyone's snippet is at a really interesting place that could be construed as where a new thread is added or the momentum increases.

That is interesting. It must be the place that naturally feels like a pivot point in any given story.
