Our latest project: niche boxes for the dining room. Well, okay, "our" is perhaps a bit liberal. The roommate constructed them and painted them—but at least I chose the colors, which kitchen-themed knick knacks to display, and glued them all down with museum putty.





The roommate's salt and pepper shake collection; little blue and white cow creamer, butter dish, gravy dish, salt and pepper shakers, toothpicks dispenser.



Genuine fake antique bottles; ceramic apple bowl with cover; crystal salt and pepper shakers.



Another antique bottle of dubious origin; spoon holders; souvenir mugs of Stonehenge and the Old Mill Hotel and Restaurant, Salisbury.

Jealous. I wish I had enough wall space, but bookshelves expand to fill all available walls. I have a "shadow cabinet" (same principle, but lots of little niches) for little treasures, but nowhere to put it.

We don't allow bookshelves in the living/dining area. The rest of the house is crammed full of the darned things.

Fairly easy to make. Hanging them can be something of a challenge. Ultimately we settled on the old school method of hooks and picture wire. It was just the most stable for the weight.
