Her Serene Majesty, Princess Underfoot, was not too serene last night. Up until 10 p.m. she seemed her usual regal self, but then she started experiencing a great deal of pain. She'd cry out and ruck up her back legs in spasm--it was horrible to see. So of course we couldn't let her go on like that. We went to the vet emergency center near Westwood and were there until 1:30 a.m., partially because the vet was flooded with sufferers and a big emergency surgery, partially because they did x-rays, did EKGs, this that and whatever. It turned out to be a severe bladder infection. We had all sorts of dire imaginings before then, though. (And why is it that those things, in humans or in cats, always show up in the middle of the night?)

We had to leave her there and pick her up this morning at 8, then transfer her to our regular vet for reassessment. Man, was she irritated when she realized she wasn't going home but to another vet. She balled us out something severe! That's how we knew she was feeling better. And when we finally brought her home, she marched into the house, cussing like you wouldn't believe. I didn't think such language was appropriate for a Princess, but she told me to go &^%$%^&& myself.

Her minions are so glad to be put in their place again. But I do feel as if I'd been beaten up by a wet stick.

Oh lord that sounds awful to go through... but I'm glad she's okay!
