You know, there's a lot to be said for ordinary days—boring, routine, slogworthy days. This isn't one of them, which is why I say that.

Started off pretty slogworthy, with a bit of an uptick because yay! it's Friday. But I hadn't been to work more than fifteen minutes before I somehow, apparently, got a sudden burst of superpowers because I picked up my book bag so forcefully that I managed to slam it into my own head. Specifically, my eye.

Hurt some. I managed to get the contact out. Once before I managed to crack it inside my eye with, remarkably, no eye damage and I thought perhaps I'd accomplished the same feat, only this time it felt like I may have cracked it with damage. It hadn't cracked, so I just sat there for awhile letting the eye tear until it felt sort of okay. Then, because I am completely blind and my backup glasses were at home (half hour drive if the traffic's good), I popped the contact back in.

Hurt some. And stoopid. So I finally drove home for the glasses, then drove back to work. Felt better once I'd taken the lenses out, but the glasses aren't really the right prescription for me anymore, so now it's difficult to tell if the hurt is due to residual damage to the eye or from eye strain. Going to see the doctor at 2:30.

Hopefully, that won't hurt some.

How did I manage such a dorky trick? I am still trying to figure that out.

ETA: I managed to take off two layers of about 1/8 of my cornea. "The only reason you're not screaming in pain," said the doctor, "is because you also managed to sever a nerve." (Dr. Barry has a flair for the dramatic. Hey--it's the Westside of L.A. Why not?) So, liquid antibiotics for a couple of days to prevent infection, and we'll hope there's no scarring, and I'm trés trés pissed at myself right now. That's life for you!

Undie the cat update: Apparently, she liked being escorted to bed by those getting ready for work so much that she has repeated her request (and of course been granted it) every morning this week. She will be disappointed when I don't get out of bed at six tomorrow. Hehehe.

Ouch. Hope you're okay.

Oh, and by the way, tomorrow morning at 6:00, the joke will be on whoever Undine decides will be her escort for the day.

True, the Puritan work ethic seems to have, for the most part, passed the cat by.

Well, the second part is definitely good news. It'd make for a pretty depressing blog entry if you were gonna die.

"Do you really think she would take the time to type 'bloggggggg...'?"

"Maybe it was dictation."

ow ow ow.

I miss my contacts sometimes, but I don't miss the possibility of things like this.

I am so sorry, hon, I didn't know black eyes were contageous. So was it the contact that cut your eye? And was it glass? What about going over to plastic disposable contacts? My husband uses those but I am a whooze and have good ole glasses.

Hope you get better soon.

Feel better!

I know someone who did the same thing while gardening in the dark. So, a book bag mishap doesn't seem nearly so silly by comparison.

Regarding Undie, the sign at my vet says:
Dogs have owners, cats have staff.

I hope you feel better soon!
