The stillest hour of your night
Sep. 28th, 2006 12:23 pmSending this out to anyone who might be considering quitting writing. Or anything else you love, really. I think Rilke's quote can be applied to anything that's important to you.
Random quote of the day:
"You are looking outward, and that above all you should not do now. Nobody can counsel you, nobody. There is only one single way. Go into yourself. Search for the reason that bids you to write; find out whether it is spreading out its roots in the deepest places of your heart, acknowledge to yourself whether you would have to die if it were denied you to write. This above all—ask yourself in the stillest hour of your night: must I write?
—Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet

Date: 2006-09-28 08:50 pm (UTC)About five years ago I realized two things: one, I must write; it's simply impossible for me to not communicate by writing even if it means I lose my dignity, my secrets, my cool. Two, quitting is my default reaction to things going badly awry, but it doesn't actually work.
