Date: 2010-03-11 05:29 pm (UTC)I'm reminded of an observation I read once in a WWII memoir. A woman was remarking with irritation about a neighbor who refused to leave her kitchen and go into a shelter during bombing raids. The neighbor in question was, quite apart from refusing to take cover, not very bright and the consensus was that she simply lacked the imagination to grasp that her kitchen, the most familiar room in the house to her, could possibly ever be a dangerous place.
