To begin again

From the notebooks, November 22, 1994:

And every time I turn away, the story comes to hand, as if the Universe were saying, "Come on, it's time to begin again." And so I begin again, though I don't know where I'm going and the path is dark, I begin again. We can't do anything else and still remain human. To begin again, and again, and hope that this time it does a little good.
