Hmm. . . the problem is that there have been many, many, many people who have declared that some piece of knowledge will shake the world. Most sunk without a trace. Several made the world noticably worse.

This is true. But it seems to me that entrenchment has caused just as many or more problems. It really is a roll of the dice since none of us can accurately predict the future, including Mr. Whitehead.
