Unineffable
Mar. 19th, 2004 09:35 amSaw Secret Window last night. What-A-Turkey. Not even the ineffable Johnny Depp could salvage this gobbler. It was the kind of turkey which stands out in the rain looking at the sky with its mouth open until it drowns.
Although most of the cast seemed to be trying hard, the most likable character in the movie was the psychopath played by John Tarturro. When he was on screen, the movie actually held some interest. He was not on screen nearly enough. Besides, aren't we supposed to be rooting for the hero? There was no hero to root for. And this was definitely one of those instances where the best scenes in the movie were in the trailer. In fact, some of the scenes in the trailer were not actually in the movie. Just there to entice and fabricate.
The script was totally predictable. I kept thinking, "Well, it's a little slow to get started, but I'm sure it'll get rolling soon." It never did. And I'm saying to myself, "Oh, X won't happen because that would be too way too obvious." X happened. And the next X happened, and the next, and the next...
