I used to get so annoyed at the messaging in high school that said to be myself. I didn't know who I was or what my voice sounded like. I'm a fan of quotes that get that - finding my voice was a process.

I think it always is for most thoughtful people. It's easy to go along with the crowd and mistake that for your own identity.
