I'm Danish, we thrive on humourous sarcasm, although I learned to curb it when I lived in Switzerland, because people either thought I was serious or simply didn't get it and thought I was rude or weird.

It very much can be a cultural thing. Or a family thing. I had to learn that not every family was as sarcastic as my own or used sarcasm as a means of expressing affection. :-/
