He played a good game there for awhile, even had me thinking he might be all right, but ever since he got down on his knees in front of the ultraright and George Bush I've been disenchanted, to say the least. And this just about finishes him off as far as I'm concerned:

This is a war of free speech, nothing more. The people had a little too much power for the likes of McCain and his ilk.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] davidbain for the reference.

I don't think he always was. His problem is that he wants to be President so badly he'd do anything. ANYTHING. The only way a Republican can get the nomination these days is to be a raving wingnut, so he became one. Including kissing Jerry Falwell's butt and hiring the operative who ran the "he sleeps with white women" campaign against Harold Ford in TN for his own campaign. So no, he wasn't always. But he sure as hell is now. And he doesn't deserve to be President.

I've been wary of McCain for a while now. He's a lot more conservative than his aw-shucksness will have you believe. And the very fact that he's cow-towingight and basically sold out on the torture issue makes him completely unelectable as far as I'm concerned.

Some have been saying that his recent calls to up the number of troops in Iraq were a bluff, figuring Bush would read the Iraq report and start bringing troops home. Then, in '08 McCain could say, "We would have won if you listened to me." But instead, bush is thinking of sending more troops just like McCain said. If that goes bad, you can forget about a McCain presidency ever happening.

Well said. I've been very skeptical of him since he absolutely cowered in the corner when the Rove machine was smearing him in the 2000 Republican primaries. And seeing him cave in on the torture bill, sucking face with Bush and Falwell.... yeah, the man has not one scrap of honor, integrity or credibility left to his name.

Yeah, he finished himself with me a while back. With Bush driving everyone to extremism, McCain found himself without political cover in the center, and instead of "speaking the truth and shaming the Devil," he dove for the nearest cover, which happened to be on the right. Pusillanimous worm.

No, I don't believe that McCain was always that way. There was a time I really respected the man. I would have voted for the old McCain, because I saw him as a man of honor and integrity. But since the 2000 Republican primaries, when he caved in and has now completely sold his soul over matters like that torture bill, among other things, he's simply a tool of the right-wing fascists that are currently running this country. He's a bastard and I wouldn't piss on him if he were on fire.
