How dorky is this?

So I thought about registering a domain name in case I wanted to build a web site later. pjthompson.com is taken. (Some dork named Paul Thompson.) As is .net and .org. pamelajthompson.com is taken, as is .net and .org. pamelathompson.com is taken, but I knew it would be--there's a fashion designer by that name. So what to call my domain. I'd prefer to have something to do with pjthompson in there, since that's my writing name. pjthompsonwriter.com seems pretty dorky and presumptuous, but it does have the virtue of being available, as is pjthompsononline.com.

Any opinions on the dorkness or lack of dorkness of either of these? Maybe i should try pjthompsondork.com.

that bites. have you considered purchasing a different domain, such as .info or .us.com or .us? (you're in the us, right?)

the other option is to register a different name altogether -- like Rob Sawyer, who grabbed sfwriter.com

Actually, I think I could probably get .info or .us. That's preferrable to those other ones, which were both dorky. This is one of the drawbacks of having a common name, I guess.

my registrant lists both those options as available, so it might be worth it. but common names are easy to remember. and spell. trust me, no one ever spells my surname correctly. the golden arches have a *lot* to answer for.

Ironically, people have trouble with the "p" in the middle of my name. No one is safe! And McDonough, my stepdad's name, often got the golden arches treatment, too. they do have a lot to answer for.

I note www.pamthompson.com seems to be available. Christopher Moore had the same problem and had to go with chrismoore.com even though that's not how his name appears on the book covers.

That's a possibility. I'd like to keep it in the .com domain if possible because that's the one most people automatically try...pesky domain stealers!

And radishes are quite nice if you don't mind burping. :-) The red ones can be quite spicy.

Now there's an idea... I was trying to keep the domain away from any specific work, but that actually might not be a bad idea at all. Of course, it's probably already taken by some pornographer. ;-)

As a side note, I got jdparadise.com (and decided that would be my writerly name) because paradise, jonparadise and jparadise were all taken. No big sales, no fans a'tall... so no need for a site. Thus mine not being updated since 2003. :)

That's a good one. Wish I'd thought of that. I wound up getting pjthompson.info and pamelajthompson.net (it was available after all). when and if I do a website, I'll decide which to use, but I'm leaning towards pjthompson since that's my actual writing name. How dare these people take my name! ;-)

.info, for right now, isn't a "known" domain in the same way .net is.

Might be worth checking the whois and expiration info for pjthompson.com, the "holy grail" of .s...

I understand that. Unfortunately, pjthompson.com is a professional consulting site, so I don't think it's going away anytime soon. It's quite irritating. Maybe when I'm rich and famous I can buy him out. Haha.
